Create an API key in Mailgun

2 min readLast reviewed 24 October 2026

Short answer

In Mailgun, click your profile menu in the top right corner, choose API Security and click Add new key. Enter a description such as LeadJabber, choose the Developer role and click Create Key. Copy the key at once, as Mailgun shows it only one time.

Use an account API key

LeadJabber needs a Mailgun account API key. Mailgun also offers Domain Sending Keys, but those can only send messages for one domain and cannot do anything else, so do not use one with LeadJabber.

Choose the Developer role. It lets LeadJabber set up the webhooks it needs in Mailgun and read your domain information.

Steps

  1. Log in to Mailgun and click your profile menu in the top right corner.

  2. Choose API Security.

  3. Under Mailgun API keys, click Add new key.

  4. Enter a description you will recognise, for example LeadJabber.

  5. Choose the Developer role.

  6. Click Create Key.

  7. Copy the key and store it somewhere safe right away.

Mailgun shows the key only once. If you lose it, create a new key and delete the old one.

Next step

Add the API key to LeadJabber.

When to contact support

Contact us if LeadJabber rejects the key even though it is an account API key with the Developer role. Email support@leadjabber.com with a screenshot of the error. Never send the key itself by email.
